Beargrass at Big Bend (Glacier National Park)

This view can be seen about ¾ of the way up to Logan Pass. Just after the “Weeping Wall” there is a large, sweeping turn, locals call “Big Bend.” In mid July one can see quite a nice display of beargrass blooming here. Later in the season fireweed makes its appearance as well. Covering the area in pink blossoms. As evening falls on the landscape the warm lighting and shadows reveal the dramatic sculpting of the peaks by the glaciers of the past. I always enjoy this time of day in the park. Many of the tourists have gone back to their camps or home, and it’s a peaceful time for me to enjoy the sunset or alpenglow that only a few people take the time to see.
